Easter Eggs and Bunnies
I’ve been busy this week working on Easter eggs and bunnies! I didn’t make any last year so I was excited to try my hand at some eggs and bunnies, and would prefer to do some with writing on them like “He is Risen” but I’m still practicing for that.
I flooded all my cookies with white royal icing, then used a couple of different techniques for the designs.
Wet on Wet and Piping Details
I designed these cookies using lines of colored icing close together, then dragged my scribe tool through the lines in opposite directions. I left a space here and there to make some hearts. Wet on wet is still my favorite technique and I really enjoyed decorating these.
I decorated bunnies as well. There was no way I was going to attempt to design an actual bunny face or body, so The Simple Cookie went simple where the bunnies are concerned. I did wet on wet dots, and when they were completely dry, I piped on the bows.
I wrote on some of these for my kids and one of their cousins that will be at the Easter lunch. My writing is ok, but it definitely needs work.
I left several eggs and bunnies ‘blank’ to try my hand at doing some water color. I’ve seen this technique done several times and it always looks beautiful. I really enjoyed making these, because there’s really no wrong way to do them. It’s very creative, and although I don’t consider myself creative (I’m good at copying:), and I like how these turned out. The only one I don’t really care for is the bunny, it was just too much yellow.
I added gold luster dust to give them a little shine, although it’s kind of hard to see in the pictures. They are really pretty in person!
Hand Painting Flowers
This bunny is my absolute favorite of all the Easter eggs and bunnies I made, and it was so easy to do!
I love the look of the hand painted roses with a touch of gold to make them pop. It’s just so pretty and spring-y.
Overall I’m really please with how they turned out, and I enjoyed improving my skills.
Thanks for reading!
Here is what I used to make these cookies…
